Becca: Carro. Here’s your latte.
Claire: Thanks.
Becca: Sure.
Claire: Wait a second! You speak Spanish!
Becca: Un poco.
Claire: Un…what?
Becca: A little. I speak a little Spanish.
Claire: Becca, you are my new best friend!
Becca: I am?
Claire: You are if you help me improve my Spanish!
Becca: Why?
Claire: Because I’m taking a Spanish class this semester.
Becca: Sure. I’ll help you with your Spanish.
Claire: Great! So what’s the easiest way to learn a foreign language?
Becca: There is no easy way. You have to practice—a lot!
Claire: I was afraid you might say that.
Becca: Don’t worry about making mistakes. And don’t be scare to ask questions.
Claire: OK. How did you learn to make that sound? “Carro.”
Becca: Carro.
(Five minutes later, Becca is still teaching Claire.)
Becca: Hey, do you want to learn how to say “car” in sign language?
Claire: yeah! Teach me.
(Becca holds up two hands in front of her.)
Claire: That’s it? You just hold up your hands in front of you?
Becca: Right!
Claire: That’s easy! Maybe I should learn sign language instead!
